Mit Bijayini Satpathy hat die Kuratorin Kamalini Mukherji einen ganz besonderen Gast zur Eröffnung des Festivals „Eigenzeit – Musik von Jetzt“ nach Duisburg eingeladen. Tanzend, forschend und lehrend, beschäftigt sich die Künstlerin seit ihrer Kindheit mit der klassischen indischen Tanzform Odissi – und in der Tat: Es ließe sich kaum jemand Geeigneteres dafür finden, die Hintergründe dieser jahrtausendealten und erst im 20. Jahrhundert wiederentdeckten Kunst so kenntnisreich zu beleuchten wie Bijayini Satpathy. In Duisburg führt sie ihr erster Weg ins Lehmbruck Museum, wo sie Interessierten bei einer Lecture Demonstration Einblicke in Praxis und Theorie des Odissi gewähren wird. Ein besonderes Augenmerk richtet Bijayini Satpathy dabei auf die fließenden Geschlechterrollen, die so typisch sind für eine Tanzform, bei der weibliche Parts nicht selten von Männern und männliche von Frauen übernommen werden. Bereits jetzt ist gewiss: Wer sich ohnehin schon auf Bijayini Satpathys Festival-Auftritt am 2. Mai freut, dürfte nach der Veranstaltung im Lehmbruck Museum dem Abend in der Gebläsehalle im Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord mit noch größerer Begeisterung entgegensehen.
With Bijayini Satpathy, curator Kamalini Mukherji has invited a very special guest to Duisburg for the opening of the festival “Eigenzeit –Music of Now”. Dancing, researching and teaching, the artist has been involved with the classical Indian dance form Odissi since her childhood – and indeed, it would be hard to find anyone more suitable and as knowledgeable as Bijayini Satpathy to illuminate the background of this millennia-old art, which was only rediscovered in the 20th century. In Duisburg, her first stop will be the Lehmbruck Museum, where she will give a lecture demonstration to provide insights into the practice and theory of Odissi. Bijayini Satpathy will be paying particular attention to the fluid gender roles that are so typical of a dance form in which female parts are often taken on by men and male parts by women. One thing is already certain: anyone who is already looking forward to Bijayini Satpathy’s festival performance on May 2nd will be even more excited about the evening in the Gebläsehalle in the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord after the event in the Lehmbruck Museum.
