Lars-Christian Koch ist ein renommierter deutscher Musikethnologe, Musikwissenschaftler und Museumsleiter. Nach einem Studium der Ethnologie, Musikwissenschaft und Vergleichenden Religionswissenschaft an der Universität Bonn promovierte er 1994 über die Rasa Lehre in der nordindischen Kunstmusik. Seine Habilitation erfolgte 2002 an der Universität zu Köln mit einer Arbeit über die Lieder Rabindranath Tagores. Koch war lange Jahre Leiter der Abteilung Medien – Musikethnologie, Berliner Phonogramm Archiv und Visuelle Anthropologie am Ethnologischen Museum Berlin. Seit 2018 fungierte er als Direktor des Ethnologischen Museums und des Museums für Asiatische Kunst im Humboldt Forum Berlin. 2025 übernahm er die Leitung der Staatlichen Ethnographischen Sammlungen Sachsen in Dresden.
Lars-Christian Koch is a leading German ethnomusicologist, musicologist, and museum director. He studied ethnology, musicology, and comparative religious studies at the University of Bonn and earned his doctorate in 1994 with a dissertation on the “rasa” concept in North Indian classical music. His 2002 habilitation at the University of Cologne focused on the songs of Rabindranath Tagore. For many years, he headed the Department of Media – Music Ethnology, the Berlin Phonogram Archive, and Visual Anthropology at the Ethnological Museum in Berlin. Since 2018, he has served as director of the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art at the Humboldt Forum. In 2025, he was appointed director of the State Ethnographic Collections of Saxony in Dresden.
